site down

Journal Entry: Mon May 12, 2008, 8:23 AM

my site is down... apparently there were payment problems that no one took the time to contact me about in advance, so now my 'account is suspended.' i can't even access my own ftp. anyway, time to seriously start looking for new hosting somewhere. anyone got tips?

build your own server and then just use your isp for connection. save paying for someone else to do it.

I'll suggest 1and1 hosting, they're pretty good, and fantastic deals, also. Well, my opinion 'course.

I've used both AwardSpace and 000webhost. Right now, I'm pretty happy with my website at the latter, which is free and no banners.

You can find it here: [link]

I recommend Bluehost as well. They've (for the most part) worked out great. Only one day out of the last three years has there been a lapse in service and that was a backup generator re-enacting Chernobyl in the middle of summer a couple years ago.

From what I've read, BlueHost and DreamHost are both supposed to be really good hosting services. And DreamHost claims to give people one 1 Terabyte of bandwidth. Both services also allow the hosting of Wordpress blogs. Happy host hunting!

I use BlueHost. The people I've recommended to them have loved them. 96.00 for the entire year and lots of "extras" from them. Site has never been down in the 3 years I've been with them.

[link] I've been using them for 2 years and have never had a problem or been down. They send updates 3 months in advance when your payment is due. They remind you each month until the due date.

They're also very affordable.

I took :iconneondragon:'s recommendation and went to Rydia.net.

I'm still moving in but their service was wonderful when my old host made transferring stuff a pain.

I use lunarpages.com and have never had a problem, including the billing - they let you know about a month or so in advance when your bill is due. They have a special right now on their basic package (1500 GB storage/15,000 GB/month bandwidth) for $4.95 a month.

I use nearlyfreespeech.net cause you only pay for what you use. And the rates drop as your traffic goes up. Plus they have a warning system that alerts you when your account balance is running out so you can refill it way before your site goes down. They're also known for never canceling accounts no matter how many threats they get. Not that you have anything controversial but it's comforting, especially for artists.

I use rydia.net, they're very flexible and I haven't had any problems so far. Also, since it's a small community, the webhosters are likely to respond quickly - usually within less than a day or two when I catch them by email - and they're very friendly. :)

doteasy.com

i think they're good :) $25 for the year includes 10 email addresses and 200MB of storage. if you use a referrel (which i have if you need) you get an extra 1GB of storage for free. which is really cool.

it has some restrictions like you cant have your own oekaki board on the $0 hosting because of mySQL or something, if forget what runs the oekaki but anything similar. other than that though its a great hosting site :)!

I've been using Midphase.com for years and have never had any problems with them. The staff is willing to help with any problems you have, be it host related or design/code related.

The plan I use is $7.95/month. It does have an online file manager, but you can't edit any of the pages online so I just use they're FTP.

Dreamhost is an excellent option.

If you have payment issues the manager will see to it immediately.

It's a pretty cool hosting service. I've been hosting all my sites with them for years.
If you need further info, please contact me. I'll be glad to help. Is such a sad thing that you pretty art is no longer on the net (well, your official site anyways).

I've been using dreamhost.com for over 3 or 4 years now and I've never had a problem with them in that time. Also the longer you're with them the more they up your bandwidth and space so I'm sitting pretty with a large amount and I only pay around $10/month right now.
