hey wonderful followers. thanks again for all the help regarding the art theft from last week. i'll keep you posted on what happens!
i'm thinking about that artbook i mentioned a few journal entries back. i have some ideas of how i want to handle the content, which includes a few exclusive pieces, tutorials/walkthroughs and probably a dvd showing my painting process. i want to make it happen! but one thing i've decided is to look for a publisher in the U.S. it would be great since that would make the book altogether more affordable for many of you - it's so expensive to ship from europe! so i wanted to ask if any of you guys could suggest any american publishers or knew any companies that make interesting artbooks that aren't too expensive/gigantic? any tips would be great. thank youuuuuu for reading! :)

No matter the cost, I would incredibly love to buy an art book or video from you.  Have always really enjoyed your style and approach + especially your amazing coloring skills, so to see you either in action while painting (would be freaking amazing..) or an art book with tips and techniques would be just as incredible and valuable to me.  So please do this and how can I find out where to buy this book when it becomes available!?  :D

I think on the pricing, it depends alot on how you want to present your artbook. If you want a hardcover book, obviously, it will cost more than a softcover book. But with a softcover book, the chances of the pages falling out are greater depending on the quality of the printer.

There's also the size of the book that you need to think about. I have an hardcover artbook that bigger than 30cm high and has about 30-45 pages in it cost me 50$ to have it. Another one was a softcover artbook, I has more than 150 pages in it and it's about 10-20 cm height. And I got it for the same price! So those are things to consider.

Regarding american publishers, there's Flesk Publications, Brandstudio Press, Stuart NG Books that I know of. For bigger publishers, there's Image comics and Dark Horse. I know that Les Humanoïdes Associés, Comix Buro and CFSL / Café Salé has a good distribution in the USA even though those are European Publishers.

Anyway, I would definetly buy your artbook and I support your idea of including exclusive art and turorials!

Brand Studio Press all the way, I have many books from them and they're just beautiful. Very high quality and amazingly presented. What I like most is that they are all the same size, so it becomes a collection of art rather than a bunch of awkward volumes. I'll certainly buy one of your books from them.

I was looking into doing the same thing. There's this publishing company; My Publisher, that basically lets you put together your own book of photos(or artwork) for publishing. You download a program to put your artwork and/or photos in a certain order, theme ectr. The site is here; [link]

It's a little expensive per book being published, but you get a free copy for yourself. It's just the cost your customers would have to pay really. The reviews are fairly good except for the pricing tidbit.

Another site similar to it is Blurb, which is less expensive I think; [link]

Perhaps rather than trying to find an on demand publisher, you could put together a book proposal and try to get a deal. I honestly think you have the skill and the fanbase to justify a book deal to a printer. Bloggers with less followers, content and fans get book deals.

Do most of your fans live in the U.S.? Or can it also be published cheaper in the U.S. and will be more affordable anyway?
I was just wondering because you're an European artist. And I think you have a lot of fans in Europe too. :)
Well, like many people here I would buy your artbook anyway. But being a student I'm also thankful if it's not too expensive. ;)

most of my fans live in the u.s, yes :) i have fans in europe too but it would be very easy to self-publish and send out copies within europe from here. not a realistic option for u.s buyers though!

Look into Design Studio Press. They have published dozens of artist books! You can also publish it yourself through a kickstarter? Or do what Anthony Jones did and cover half the publishing cost with a publisher with a kickstarter: [link]

I would research company's that print books for tattoo artists and such. they normally are high quality printing and binding at affordable prices for selling at conventions and online. some artists at 717 tattoo studio in pennsylvania sell them. anything from spiral bound (so that they can flip the book open for photo copies and such to full bound spines in soft and hard cover. i will get some feelers out to some of the artists i know and see who they went through and what the process was involving file transfers of art from sizes, disc or what would be required (i would do it now but im stuck at work). it may be a day or three, if you dont hear from me let me know (im a nurse so im a bit busy with idiots pretty much all day and may forget. i personally cant wait to see the book unfold!

I didn't get to scroll through all of the comments so someone may have suggested it already, but you might try Blurb. They are more for self publishing. They don't have the capability to package a dvd with the book but you could always make a companion website to go with it instead. They also offer ebook publishing that you can incorporate videos, photos, and links into.
Hope that helps!

No I haven't but I was considering using them as an option for my portfolio.
They seem to have pretty high quality materials and a large number of options that you can work with.
