Why I write.I would appreciate it if you read this to the very end, and possibly add a comment.
I'm not sure if the story of how I became a writer is an odd or interesting one, but I've been thinking about some things lately, and I decided to share it with you all.
I was either nine or ten, and I had just began to see the use of computers. 90% of my friends had a MySpace. MSN Chat, or whatever, and even though I didn't exactly want those, I wanted to "surf the web" all on my own. So, after much begging of my parents, I finally got an hour on our crappy old desktop. I was ecstatic. You want to know what the first thing I Googled was?
"Pokemon Sir Aaron love story."
I had just gotten the movie Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. I had "fallen in love," or what my young mind deemed as love, with the character of Sir Aaron. Why I decided to type in "love story," I'll never really know, but it lead me to this little site called Fanfiction.net. The first fanfiction I ever read was one
Think about what you say about othersHave a care, next time you're about to comment on a photo being circulated on the internet, even just some meme or something, if there's a person in that photo, they ARE A REAL PERSON, and you know what, they might actually read what you say and you know what, it's pretty crappy that there are people making nasty assumptions about me based on photos I don't even give permission to be posted.

That is nasty, and not needed. You don't know me, and it was not necessary for you to be awful to someone you have never even met. This is the reason why I don't allow my photos to be blogged or reposted, and why it annoys me so much. I know it's a part of internet life, you don't need to tell me again. There is quite a bit of confusion about copyright law, the DMCA, fair use, de minimus, etc. And rightly so. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt when I come across what appears to be a "theft" issue. Webcomics work on a very different set of standards than other fiction. Almost all webcomic authors are working pretty much entirely alone as they both draw and script their comics and most do not plan any further along than to the end of their current story — sometimes not even that far.
Many of them try to adhere to a schedule they aren't really capable of meeting, resulting in them rushing to meet their deadline and making mistakes that should be avoidable. So many of the good 10% lack qualities standard in traditionally professional works. This can be because of the lack of editorial input as well as the lack of lead time. hey all, i've gotten some messages lately about a group on a social networking site - http://vk.com/art.ideas - that's been stealing artwork from a bunch of artists (including me - http://vk.com/art.ideas?z=photo-39441344_298414722%2Falbum-39441344_00%2Frev ) and printing it on magnets and mugs. if you guys can identify any of the other artists whose work is stolen here, could you please let me know so i can contact them? then we can group together and tell this person to stop! also anyone who speaks russian out there and can make sense of this site/who to contact with information about the theft?

My favorite PokemonOkay, so, I'm really bored and out of it right now, so I felt like spamming you all with a pointless journal about my childhood.
When I first got into Pokemon, it was courtesy of my cousin Nate. He gave me his old Pokemon Yellow game when I was seven or six, and I immediately fell in love. I began to watch the show, and fancied myself a Pokemon master. ...even though I couldn't get past Brock because Pikachu cannot beat rock-type worth a crap.
Here is a list of my favorite Pokemon and the reasons behind it.
Rapidash: I was really big into unicorns as a child. Like, really big. You have no idea how many plush unicorns and knicknacks I have that I refuse to throw away due to nostalgia. art theft once again!

update on the art theft! the publisher, Puerto de Escape, has apologized (both publicly and personally). i woke up this morning to find a statement on their website that they will remove the covers from circulation, which i am pleased with! i am still undecided on what to do by way of legal action, but i'm happy that the publisher has responded! thanks everyone for all your help, it's thanks to you that i was taken seriously.


the latest in the lois-gets-her-art-stolen chronicles: a chilean publisher has decided to take this artwork, drag it through photoshop hell, and use it as a cover for this book, obviously without permission or compensation of any kind. not only is it copyright infringement but making book covers this ugly should be outlawed too.

anyways, i went through this before when i found my art printed on sweaters in south korea. i talked to a few different lawyers at the time, who told me that i needed a lawyer in the actual country that the theft was taking place.

the thief is Puerto de Escape in Chile (a publisher), and i intend to go after them. however, i need someone who is familiar with chilean law and ideally could hook me up with a lawyer in chile to help me out and give advice. i could also use advice from anyone familiar with these situations and how they can be resolved. if you guys could spread the word and e-mail me at loishh@gmail.com with any information, that would help me SO much! thanks a ton for reading!!

On the other hand you probably might have considered making business from selling your art as t-shirt prints ... ?

DA should have something/someplace where artists can announce this sort of thing to make it easier for all artists even new ones. Then everyone -The WHOLE community can help he/she get their stuff back!

I'm so glad to read about the publisher taking action and apologizing!Let's hope that doesn't happen again, and to them to be more aware of the arts they use for their book covers.

Since I can't afford an attorney, as long as whatever my work was stolen stops being redistributed and the thief apologizes, I'll be happy. :bucktooth:

it's unfortunate, but the easiest method for you to deal with them is probably just to seek small-scale punitive damages covering legal costs, with a cease-desist order...
