i was just talking with *
skaffa on msn and i told him i'd write a journal plugging his work, so here i am doing it. skaffa used to be in my class but then he ditched us and went on to get a kickass job at some big fancy company. as if that wasn't enough he recently quit the job to start his own studio. so i have to suck up to him so he can do me favors and possibly employ me in the distant future. check out his work!

and also i'd like to give out a general tip to a lot of artists here based on a discussion me and *kitton were just now having. a lot of people seem to think that over-rendering and painting something completely to death is the way to go, and spend a shit load of time smoothing out colors and adding light sources from all over the place and sticking photoshop filters on their work to make it all shiny and slick and smooth. my advice: start from the bottom and learn how to give your sketches some dynamism, some life and character, before you start PAINTING YOUR PICTURE TO DEATH. i'm so tired of completely boring awkward stiff lame characters rendered out in a slick paintery style. i mean, congratulations that you can pick at a picture for way longer than is necessary, but it won't change how fundamentally awkward your picture is...
just an observation! take care everybody

I watch a lot of people and recently, ones I liked awhile ago, who work mainly with digital tools, I just don't like so much now because they render everything the same way!! It's BORING! I could never do it, but that doesn't matter. I feel like artist who work digitally spend a lot of time trying to make it look like it was done with traditional media. why bother? I dunno.
I've gotten bored with my own style lately and need to find a way to revamp it a bit and make it less stiff.. Again. And you're definitely one of the artists I look to for inspiration.

Also, amen to what you said about colouring. I remember... when a girl on dA said she's moving out of home and that she's not able to get on the PC to draw something, I recommended to pick up a sheet of paper and a pencil.
She said no, her drawings don't seem lively to her without color.
I didn't reply to that.
