this was an assignment for school, where we had to deal with architecture/a group of people/modes of transportation. i chose medieval russian / renaissance italy / turn-of-the-century chicago. the settings are fictional though.

all done with a staedtler pen and tria markers, and edited/composed together in photoshop.

Wow these are absolutely beautiful! I love your colour schemes, the compositions are a delicious feast, and your style all together is simple yet captures all the necessary detail!!! I just cant get enough of your work, I cant. I too am trying to become an animator, so i would really appreciate it if you could critique anything of my work or even give a few tips for coming up with ideas or getting through art block(which i have more often than i would like :/ ) anything would probably be very helpful. So I wish you best of luck on your goals ^^

thanks so much! i'm glad you like these pieces. looking back on this, i think i should make more sequential art pieces now :] as for tips on getting through art block.. gosh, if i had any, i would have applied them to myself :] i'm finding it harder and harder to find motivation lately although i have breakthroughs every now and then. what has helped for me is to just keep going and just make something even if i don't feel like it; i always feel proud and happy with my art looking back on it, and every piece brings you one step forward.

i'll get right to the point. i am a writer. you name it, i've tried it. well, actually, i haven't written a play yet, maybe one day, but other than that i'd like to think i am an adept; imagine this a business calll; but we're in the business of having fun, aren't we, yes we are: if you do work with writers, if you are not one of those writer-artist types, which is fun, of course, wanna work together on something: i will try anything, like the fool in the first tarot card, anything, cliffs are my business:

are you interested? check out what i am doing now: my page, latest entry entitled THE UNKNOWN, which is actually just the name of the first chapter of the first story arc of the horror-fantasy-crime noir comic LEVERVILLE.

if you like it? i am yours. i work fast. the concept and first two pages in just two days (for LEVERVILLE).

if you're not interested maybe you can direct to someone who is? thank you, friend, we're all friends here i'd to think; thank you.

This reminds me a bit of Brett Helquist ( I think that's the name), who does the illustrations for A Series of Unfortunate Events. It's quite nice.

Wow, that's really nice, especially for marker. Did you use any special paper?
loish Featured By Owner Mar 16, 2006
naw, just some semi-thick textured watercolor paper that i bought somewhere for cheap, haha.

Gee, I never got one of those classes... What did you study?... I think I'm doing that exercise on my own...

(sniff... I'm terrible with architecture...)
loish Featured By Owner Mar 6, 2006
it was part of an animation course that was mainly aimed at making backgrounds and production art.
silent-hillbilly Featured By Owner Jan 20, 2006
Wow; such a good excersice on perspective! depth is also achieved wonderfully, specially on the drawing below, I really like how you built dpeht into those buildings, it really gives it a sense of great distance. Light and shadow is also something you pulled off nicely here, I really like the use of it specially on the middle one. I was gonna say it lacks a little detail on things like windows and such, but you pointed out this excercise was more focused on shapes, so I must say you did a perfect work, keep it up.

Love your style and especially the colouring. In a way it's sketchy, but all the necessary lines are there to bring it a smooth look and a natural flow.

 Really nice designs!!
Holy wow, lol. You're amazing at perspective drawing, though I'm sure you've already hear this like, 10,324,221,567,000 times, haha. The angles, detail, coloring, shading, highlighting... All are so beautifully done, and quite eye-catching. Very attractive and outgoing, really, like the lady in the red dress with pale skin, standing among the crowd of dark skinned peasants, I suppose... lol, I'm strange, sorry! ._.

it's beautiful! *envious* I need to work on perspective drawing... lol.

You have choosen good angles(don't know how it is spelled) and the way you use the tria makers makes me think of a movie I saw some years ago (don't remember the title T_T) but it gave me both the feeling of pleasure and horror- you know "how much is actually hidden in the picture and what is around that we cannot see"- I feel like thats too when I see these pictures.
