the loish brushset by loish the loish brushset by loish
I never uploaded my brushes before, because they are actually mostly standard photoshop brushes or some free brushes that I got from fellow artists here on Deviantart. However, people still keep asking what I use, so I went ahead and made this! As you can see, there is not a huge difference between the four busts above. I tend to use my brushes in the same way, so the only real difference I get is some effects from the texture and shape of the brush. Still, I hope you find them useful!

for more information, PLEASE read my FAQ at loish.deviantart.com/journal/F… !!

hard round brush
warning: do not use this brush if you are stressed and have a habit of clenching your pen too tightly! in order to get strong lines you have to press down hard. using this brush during a time when i was already clenching too much contributed enormously to my injury!

I can't find any of these :( I have photoshop cs6, does this make a difference ? I really want to use these (for the record, I recently started digitally drawing, so I don't know too much about photoshop or anything).

hm, i have photoshop cs5, it seems unlikely that it wouldn't work on cs6. have you tried restarting photoshop after loading the brushes? sometimes there is a bit of a delay before they show up in your brushes.

Although do you think that the type of tablet someone uses plays a big role on while drawing it or it's only based on skill?

:iconloish:
loish Featured By Owner Mar 26, 2015
i think skill accounts for 99% of the end result! tablet type can help make things easier or make the process faster which is also quite important in the long run, although it doesn't fundamentally change your skills/abilities. i learned how to draw digitally with an optical mouse and later a tiny tablet originally intended just for putting signatures on digital documents :) but i have a cintiq how and that is very important for speeding up my process and allowing me to work more intuitively.

Thank you for this. However, I do have one question. For the soft brush, do you really use 1-5% flow? I've tried that and it seems to take a while to finish blending something...I use a wacom tablet, and I have Transfer and Shape Dynamics selected in the photoshop brush tool settings. So...is that my issue? Or, is it supposed to take a long time to blend?

i usually use 2% flow. i really just use it to smooth out towards the very end of the process, the effect is meant to be very subtle!

Neat info. Another trick is to use a PS brush that makes repetitive close-in stipple pattern on top of itself with the smudge tool at a low strength value (below 10%) as a blending brush. (Although I heard the more recent versions of Photoshop fixed the blur tool from being nearly useless. But it works great in CS2 or older.)
