this was sort of an exercise in using reference. i decided to push towards a more realistic result by observing photos of sunsets, perspective from below (for the face), jellyfish, and hands. i think that i focused on this too much and the picture turned out too static, but it was good practice.

You should sue them and have the consolation be that you make about 50% of their profit from each book

from what ive read on the company that used this art for a cover, it seems they already talked with the artist, apologized, and removed the artwork from their site. I hope this is true.

Indeed, the publishing company released a retraction and has taken the covers down. [link] (in spanish)

The swift response and apology of the company makes me believe that they comissioned a work that resulted plagiarized from another artist and had no intention into stealing Loish's art.

actually all of their covers are stolen and their apology more or less amounts to "we're sorry we got caught", IMO.

I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, a small kindness to my compatriots. Alas, that is just not cool :(
