evening glow by loish evening glow by loish
this was sort of an exercise in using reference. i decided to push towards a more realistic result by observing photos of sunsets, perspective from below (for the face), jellyfish, and hands. i think that i focused on this too much and the picture turned out too static, but it was good practice.

drawn in photoshop CS3 with an intuos3 tablet. textures from cgtextures.com , tips on how to use textures can be found here - [link] and for other tips check out my f.a.q - [link]

EDIT: resubmitting, because apparently it did not show up in poeple's message centers. wtf?? sorry to those who commented and faved on the other version.

hey! i actually stopped selling mouse pads because i wasn't sure of the quality. I can offer this one as a mouse pad temporarily so you can purchase one though, that's no problem :) could you send a pic of your old one to loishh@gmail.com?

I love that you draw people with dreadlocks. As a dreadie myself, it's pretty rare that I see them depicted in the artistic world.

I love this; I've been looking for a reference for sort of a looking-up perspective of someone and this is perfect. I love the colors as well.

Really? that is a shame. *sigh*

I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, a small kindness to my compatriots. Alas, that is just not cool :(

actually all of their covers are stolen and their apology more or less amounts to "we're sorry we got caught", IMO.

Anyway, I prefer your answers as the answers of your fans.

way to make your point with unnecessary and unfair judgements about me! i made those posts because i needed help, advice and people willing to translate for me, which i managed to find through these social networks and would have never found had i kept this between me and this shady 'publisher'. i'm happy to hear that you feel everything has been resolved, but in fact, it hasn't. the publisher manipulated the facts in their 'apology' and are telling lies to my lawyer and fans. and perhaps you shouldn't be the one to tell me when i "should be happy" - i will decide that myself. now please go make passive-agressive accusations elsewhere, thanks.

Yes I recognize, I don't lie, but I don't care if people use them or not.
The point is, that an email to the Chilean publishing was more than enough, they already communicated with you, and apologized.
The number of post on tumblr, and facebook was more than enough, you should be happy now that the book is out of circulation.

actually, yeah, all of my software is legal. but since you so readily assume that i use pirated software for my art, i guess that says something about where you get your 'editing programs' from!

You should sue them and have the consolation be that you make about 50% of their profit from each book

Indeed, the publishing company released a retraction and has taken the covers down. [link] (in spanish)

The swift response and apology of the company makes me believe that they comissioned a work that resulted plagiarized from another artist and had no intention into stealing Loish's art.

from what ive read on the company that used this art for a cover, it seems they already talked with the artist, apologized, and removed the artwork from their site. I hope this is true.

so you think that just writing the source justifies taking someone else's hard work, modifying it onto a book cover, sell and make money off of it?

what campaign? if she hadn't asked for help she probably wouldn't have found a lawyer in Chile.

artists should always speak up about this so they can warn other artists.

Neither of the two, if I were the person who made the covers, I would put the source, because I know the deviantart rules, Especially when is about selling something.
Recognizing the error of the publishing company, but I do not justify this campaign online, a simple email to the editorial was enough, is my opinion.

nice try, but you can get an original copy of an editing program legally as a bonus when you buy a graphics tablet, most tablets come with their own editing software as well, so i'm sure she invested in an original copy.

also, i doubt she resells other people's work, like the publishing company di with hers.

Maybe you download music and resell it, or maybe you're the "young editor" they hired that photoshopped the book cover, hmm?
