i'm genuinely embarrassed, because i like to think my disney fanart days are over. this was meant as a silly speed drawing but i just couldn't stop and went way too far! it's very kitschy, cheesy and just wrong. but you know, we all have our guilty pleasures.

drawn in photoshop CS3 with a wacom tablet, textures from cgtextures.com using the technique described in [link]

I beg to disagree with your description. I find this piece lovely,a nd quite frankly, I couldn't tell that tis was a "silly speed drawing". The way her head is tilted and how she isn't looking completely straight forward makes the piece intersting. The way you've painted the light/shadow detail on her dress and shoulder makes it so realistic. I love it when artists do their own take on a character (meaning they wouldn't necessarily strive to copy the original style) Abstract, artsy, yet simple all in one. Great work :D

Nothing to be embarrassed about! Sure, it's kitschy and cheesy and quite mainstream, but she's a very pretty face. As long as most of your art is original, I don't think you need to be ashamed of anything when you copy a beloved character from your younger days every now and again.

You shant feel shame about Disney fanart, cuz you're never too old to appreciate Disney!

I mean look at :iconbri-chan:, she does a lot of them and never loses her passion for it (and it's not just for her job either). So if you still feel like you're in a Disney mode and wind up drawing Disney stuff, then don't feel oppressed into not doing it just because you told yourself to stop.

BTW, best version of Belle EVURR!

You're not, trust me

:iconrisachantag: also does a buttload of anime fanarts but ALWAYS has her originals.

So, anytime you draw Ariel or any other Disneys, just remember you still do your originals too. Drawing one or two fanarts of Ariel/Disney every once in a while shouldn't damper your taste for originality (ie, "Uh oh, I drew Ariel art and it's not making me original anymore, it's making me a fanartist!"). Don't feel like Disney/fanart is making you unprofessional. You taught a CLASS in Africa and that's really something! And I'll have to say it'll still make you professional and original regardless of your original concepts or someone else's. Kay?

Look good Loish! A little fanart won't hurt your reputation. I promise. :XD:

ah, thanks. i know it won't hurt my reputation :] but it is still a guilty pleasure, it's just so "easy" to portray an already existing character and get double the amount of favorites you'd get on an original piece. i guess it's kind of haunted me that the princesses-as-mermaids picture is one of the most favorited pictures in my gallery! even though i have better pieces.
ah well, it's all about what a person enjoys right? thanks for the kind comment!!

No probs!

If you enjoy Disney art, there's no shame in drawing an already-existing character in your concept. :XD:

That's why you have the fanarts folder in your gallery's catagory. It's there for a reason, yeah?
