a girl and her pet by loish a girl and her pet by loish
i haven't been drawing AT ALL since i finished my graduation animation, so i just forced myself to draw today. devoid of inspiration, i decided to re-draw a picture i drew when i was 15 or so: [link]

however, i found it boring so i did what any reasonable person would do: i added an OCTOPUS. the result: the next installment in the girl + aquatic creature series. haha.

drawn in photoshop CS3 with an intuos3 tablet, in about 5 hours. textures from cgtextures.com , tips on how to use textures can be found here - [link] and for other tips check out my f.a.q - [link]

I love your style so much it's like norman rockwell with a surreal pop twist. I'm sure you heard that though, it's kind of apparent, but it's amazing :).

This is insane!!

I've been trying to master teh photoshop drawings. I sketch them then scan and finish them with photoshop. I learned new techniques but im not happy with them. This is how I want mine to start looking one day. Any tips?

i sometimes work with scanned pencil drawings too, what helps is to eventually merge all layers and sort of paint over the entire thing with lighter colors. it helps to bring the whole thing together and keep the layers from looking too separate from one another. if you want to preserve your layers you can also just start painting over the image with a new layer on the way top.

I just did a Walle piece. It turned out decent but I didn't do layers... even though I know better to use layers. Next time I'll do layers and merge them and see how that works for me.

have you tried it yet? everyone kind of has a different approach in terms of layers i think.. i always like to keep it simple with one, otherwise i totally lose track of the color scheme :]

Kinda, I do layers but I'm not sure if its how you layer. I jus a pantone solid coated palette when I'm sticking to strick color schemes (a color library, which im sure you know about)

I'm still learning how to use my tiny tablet, while hoping my boss doesnt come around the corner while im drawing. lolz
